Complementary Objects

ds483 - ComplementsDog Blog Post #265:  Well, it seems the Daily Shoot was listening in on yesterday's plea for a prop-able picture.  :)

Make a photo of two complementary objects arranged in a pleasing composition, one large and one small.

I had two ideas, and the result of the second is on display here today, and also contains what I ultimately uploaded.

The first? Well, you'll just have to wait for Wordless Wednesday (unless something better turns up between now and then!)

I wanted to try out one of the three new fabrics I bought yesterday (2 yards each) but my chosen "prop" didn't seem to go with any of them, so they will have to wait for another day.

First up was Zachary, who was transfixed by my little buddy (well, my son's buddy from days of yore) but after I let him get the sniffies out of his system, he proved to be a fine model.

(Zachary, that is. The toy was also a fine model, but that part was never in any doubt!)

I took many pictures of Zachary and the little dog (whose name, I believe, is Milkshake) - pictures sitting, pictures laying down, pictures "looking sad", pictures cuddled up, pictures staring at one another...

... but my favorite of the bunch is the one at the top of the post. I liked the similarity between the position of Milkshake and the position of Zachary, and how stately Zachary looks. Alas, it wasn't the picture I ultimately selected, as in the end, I decided that it didn't come across well when viewed as a small, square, thumbnail, which is how the Daily Post displays them on their main page.

The picture I picked (as you are only supposed to tweet one) is below...

... again, selected because it looked the best as a thumbnail. Yes, that's Henry "looking sad" again. Yes, I know I've probably gone to the well too many times with that pose, but he likes doing it, and he just looks so darn cute!

Editor's Note: The Sprollies 'n' Border Collies asked: "Where do you get all your daily shoot assignments from?"

Why, from the Daily Shoot web page, of course! :)

Every day, once a day, a new "assignment" is posted. If you choose to participate, you can upload your photo someplace (flickr being, by far, the most popular spot) and then tweet it to the daily shoot (instructions on their web page) for display as clickable thumbnail on their main page.

I love it, because you get to see other peoples ideas, and implementations. Of course, I usually feel like a real neophyte with my little point-n-shoot, but so be it. I'm having a great time, the dogs are having a great time, and it's made training time soooo much more fun for everyone. :)

... and houndstooth might be on to something with her idea of a separate "ogle me" command, instead of reusing "Leave it!". Hmm... that might even make a great new trick!

FWIW: Here's the state of Henry's "head tilt" trick... obviously, still a work in progress. I'm also thinking a head on shot would make it much more noticeable.

Huh?

Once again, I'm in awe of all your photos today! I love them all. That head tilt is going to come in SO handy! Henry is cute as a bug's ear, but Zachary looks so stately! Wow!

I love it when Sage does the head tilt, so I can't wait to see more of Henry's!! At least you can capture it. Henry and Zachary are such great models.
