Broken

Cookie Envy

Dog Blog Post #476: Nothing worse than a broken cookie, unless it's no cookies at all!

Our Daily Challenge - Oct 9, 2011 - "Broken"
111 Pictures in 2011 - "#16. damaged"

Why are they looking at the cookies?

Wouldn't you?

I know, staring at the object of "Leave it!" is considered bad form by the dog training crowd, and I actually had to work a bit to break Zachary (dog #2) of the good habit I had created in him as a pup to NOT stare at the food, because Beau (dog #1) would hover over the "Leave it!" object, barely a hairs-width distance away.

Nothing like holding a handful of dog treats before your dog, feeling warm breath and chin whiskers tickling your skin, while watching drool pooling in your palm as the seconds slowly tick by.

So after I "failed" with Beau, I taught Zachary to turn away, only to find out that photography is sooooo much easier if you can control what your model is looking at.

And what better thing to draw attention than food.

Thus Zachary was de-programmed so that he would look at the food (although sometimes he still reverts to initial training and backs up, until I remind him it's OK to stare at it.)

Henry (dog #3) has pretty much always been allowed to stare at the food as he wished.

And he wishes.

I don't know, which do you like better - drool or no drool? I can never decide.

I'm not a drool person but a sophisticated, discreet sliver of drool does add to the effect:)

Still laughing over your idea for this assignment! I like the no drool picture more, but not because of the lack of drool. There's just something infinitesimally different about their postures that I like better in the second photo. I can't even quite put my finger on what it is.

I have to admit that I'm having fun getting back into the swing of things on Flickr, and I like using one picture for a multitude of groups, but I still miss the DS.

Did you mean more about starting a Flickr group or more about finding one? lol

Such great control! I sure would never see my two do that. Sage can make it for a bit without drool, but probably not as long as your two!
