Sitting Pretty in High Key

Sitting Pretty
Henry: "Oh woe is me... nobody loves me."

Don't be a silly boy, of course we love you!

Sitting Pretty
Henry: "Not a Cookie in sight."
(sigh)

Well if you'd lift your head up and smile I'd give you lots of Cookies."

Sitting Pretty
"Cheesy Burgers!"

What a good boy.

Sitting Pretty
Zachary: "Oh woe is me... I never get to go first."

Oh don't you start, and you never want to go first. You'd rather snarf up a handful of free Cookies while Henry goes first.

Sitting Pretty

Ahem... I pay for smiles, not attitude.

Sitting Pretty
Zachary: "Hey, I get to be in color!"

Much better!

Editor's Note

Ok... I admit it... a little attitude makes for better blogging, but don't tell these two or I'll never get any work out of them!

Behind the Scenes

I actually took a picture of today's setup as I had the nifty-fifty lens on and could get the whole room in the picture.

Alas, I didn't realize quite how cluttered the family room had become and now I'm too embarrassed to show it. Oh well, it wasn't that exciting anyway.

The backdrop was the white fleece held up on the backdrop frame raised well above my head and at 3/4 width. This created the "wall" behind the boys (and obscured the camera gear that you would otherwise see.)

I then tossed more white fabric over the leather sofa, added a dog, and a white cowboy hat.

I had the umbrella and flash front-right, and the reflector front-left held in place by my old aluminum tripod - as there is no fridge to clamp it to in the middle of the living room.  In a perfect world I would have had the flash more centered, but that created nasty shadows on my "wall" since I couldn't get things far enough away from each other ("wall", dog, flash, camera) when in that location.

When you see the boys looking down, I'm lying on the floor (with Cookies).

When you see them looking up, I'm standing (with Cookies).

The rest was done in Aperture 3, fiddling with sliders until I liked what I saw.

I love the soft velvety texture of these black and white photos.
I had to laugh about your pics with a messy family room in the back... I've posted a few like that and hoped no one paid too much attention :)

I bow to you! I was too chicken to try high key last night, and I ran out of time, too. I love how yours turned out!
