Around The Corner

And now for something completely different…

Reflection
Zachary: "Am I handsome or what?"

What?

Reflection
Zachary: "Hey!"

Next!

Reflection
Henry: "I'm blurry."

Reflection
Henry: "That's better… although your composition is a bit off and the lighting on my rump is terrible."

Reflection
Henry: "Momma? Where are you going Momma?"

Dog Blog Post #1325

(sigh)

So what went wrong today?

Too much dog and not enough room to back up and get a clean shot.

Too much dog and not enough lighting where I needed it (see bottom shot for What Could Have Been had I had less dog - a lot less dog!)

The oven door.

What oven door?

The one in the upper left that I cropped out of several shots, which is why those shots are on an angle - to try and preserve as much Dog as possible but still eliminate the shiny black oven door.

You know it's been a bad shoot when the best shot of the day is of Miss Kitty (see below) - which is on an angle only because I was being quick and lazy, just making sure the reflection was going to be right before I brought in my livelier models.

At least that part went well - the reflection - an improvement over the last time I tried this shot some months ago, which you never saw because it was a complete train wreck.

For the curious - this is (obviously, from the oven comment) taken in my Kitchen, where is where I usually take my pictures.

However, today the backboard with the black velvet stretchy fabric (most visible in shot #2 above the mirror) is leaning against the Kitchen table (usually to my right when I take pictures) and a VERY old door mirror is laying on the floor on its side up against it. The umbrella and flash are just out of sight around the corner to the left in pretty much the same spot they usually are (which would be on the right), as that's where the most convenent plug is.

The dogs are laying against the opposite Kitchen wall and facing the mirror, in which they watched me  through the entire shoot except in the two shots (one each) where I called their names to get them to look away from the mirror.

If you kept going to the left past the (not visible) oven you would reach the (not visible) Fridge, where the reflector usually is clipped but was not needed today. A few steps beyond that and you've reached the end of the Kitchen, where the backdrop usually goes.

And on a typical day the camera - at least with this lens, the 60mm - would be sitting just a few feet to the right of most of these shots, centered between the real wall (behind the dogs - easiest to see in the bottom shot) and the mirror.

  2. I had no idea it was going to be such a tough one for you to get! I'm sorry. Maybe you need to find the boys a hand mirror! I guess we all have those days, though. At least there's always tomorrow.

  3. I don't feel so bad now. The only mirror I could think of to you is in the bedroom....I tried from ALL angles and couldn't get get Dory's non-reflection and reflection in the frame....because the bed is 3 feet from the mirror...grrrrr

Then again, that's a great part of photography...the challenge of it!

Oh yeah...next time I see a cool mirror at a yard sale, I am sooooo buying it! :-)

    Great shots!!
