Things To Know Before You Get A Golden Retriever...

Henry Fluff
Henry: "Look at all that fluff."

Henry Fluff
Henry: "I wonder where it all came from?"

Henry Fluff
Henry: "Momma, Zachary's losing his fur."

Henry Fluff
Zachary: "What? No… wait…"

Henry Fluff
Zachary: "Quick, glue it back on!"

Note: If you have a Golden Retriever with a luxuriously thick coat during the winter (like Henry) then you will have a floor (furniture, clothes, food…) covered in the soft stuff the following spring.

They shed again in the fall, but as their coats are much thinner over the summer there is less to "share".

Henry, being the generous boy that he is, contains to shed at a much-lower-but-still-noticeable (on the floor, the furniture, me…) level the remainder of the year as well.

Sooo if you don't like hair on your floor, your clothes, your furniture, your meals, and you - then a Golden Retriever is definitely NOT the dog for you.

Dog Blog Post #1353

Nothing says Changing Seasons quite like a shedding dog.

This is actually the second, and must smaller, brushing today.

I raked 2-3 times this much out of Henry at lunch, stupidly throwing the fluff away before realizing how perfect it would be for today's challenge.

Never fear, there was plenty more where that came from, and will be for weeks to come.

Thankfully, Henry adores the undercoat rake (green handled thingie) and does a happy dance every time I get it out, pushing against it in pure delight as I comb.

As for Zachary, since he doesn't grow a heavy undercoat his shedding stays at a manageable level.

  2. Well at least you didn't have to go to the fur stealers. Lucky break guys. Have a wonderful Wednesday.

  3. Yeah, Morgan and Küster contribute quite a bit of fur around the house, too. I think I vacuumed up three dogs the other day! Sheesh!

  5. Our Golden child, Tucker used to look like he had run through a cotton field this time of year! We had Tucker hair bunnies everywhere. <3 Bark More, Growl Less Barking from the Bayou!

  6. My dad says I only sheds twice a year. From winter time to summer time and from summer time to winter time. Have a nice day.

  7. Absolutely beautiful and perfectly accurate photos, although I try to convince my human mommy that all that hair around the house is coming from my human daddy's head. :-)

  11. Thanks for the tips! It is important to know first the things to do and to consider before having golden retrievers in your house. We should know all of that or else it will end up bad for your dog. Thanks!
